Chops-master Brian Frasier-Moore is back with a catch-you-off-guard groove. In this video, you’ll see his right hand putting the hi-hat hits on the ONE e and A TWO. A relaxed left hand brings in a subtle drag – or “lazy buzz” – immediately after the initial hi-hat hit. The right hand comes over to the snare to play the strong backbeat while Brian peppers in some double strokes on the bass drum.
You’ll get the best feel with a bold and aggressive right hand and a soft, gentle left hand dropping the buzz. The ‘anxious’ hi-hat pattern, combined with a relaxed backbeat, gives this lick a nice tension and release effect.
Give it a try, and then check out Brian’s course on Drumeo Edge.
