The entire pattern starts mid-double stroke so it has an offset feel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you remove the sticking, the notation looks just like a regular flam tap. You might find the inverted version tricky at first because of where the flams fall. It\u2019ll be much easier to learn once you\u2019ve nailed the components.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First, play a double stroke roll slowly. Then separate each double with a flam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The biggest challenge here is consistency. Make sure the flams are tight and that there\u2019s very little space between the grace note and the primary note.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mind the gap: never play two notes at exactly the same time. But you shouldn\u2019t go click-free for long. Don\u2019t just say \u201cit\u2019s good enough\u201d. Try to set up a practice pad and a snare stand in front of a full length mirror if you can.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019ll be able to notice if you\u2019re gripping your sticks too hard, or if your stick height doesn\u2019t look right. Use your reflection as a window into how you\u2019re doing.
