It\u2019ll be much easier to learn once you\u2019ve nailed the components.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The biggest challenge here is consistency. Your double strokes and flams should be tight and there should be very little space between the grace note and the primary note.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mind the gap: never play two notes at exactly the same time. But you shouldn\u2019t go click-free for long. Don\u2019t just say \u201cit\u2019s good enough\u201d. Even though the single flammed mill alternates naturally within the pattern, try starting the run with your left hand too. Try to set up a practice pad and a snare stand in front of a full length mirror if you can.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019ll be able to notice if you\u2019re gripping your sticks too hard, or if your stick height doesn\u2019t look right. Use your reflection as a window into how you\u2019re doing. If you can get comfortable with all 40 rudiments, you\u2019ll be able to do virtually anything on the drums.
